The plug type valve, commonly known as "COCK," is a type of valve. It mainly consists of a rotatable conical plug (rotary plug) and a valve body. Plug type valve has notable structural features, such as easy operation, low fluid resistance, fast opening and closing, fewer parts, and lightweight.
Plug type valve is a valve that controls fluid flow by rotating the plug body. The plug body is usually cylindrical or conical, with a channel on it. When the plug body aligns with the valve body channel, the fluid can flow; when it is not aligned, the fluid flow is blocked. This working principle allows the plug type valve to have a quick response in controlling fluids, meeting the need for fluid cut-off and connection under various working conditions.
Fast Opening and Closing: Plug type valves enable fast opening and closing operations, improving the system response speed. For example, in scenarios that require emergency fluid cut-off, plug type valve can quickly function to ensure system safety. Nominal pressures range from PN2.5 to PN25, and nominal sizes from DN15 to DN600, allowing the plug type valve to complete opening or closing actions in a short time, suitable for various working conditions.
Flow Direction Control: By changing the rotation angle of the plug body, the fluid flow direction can be controlled. Three-way plug type valve and four-way plug type valve can direct the fluid to different outlets, achieving multi-way flow or fluid diversion, meeting the needs of complex fluid control systems.
Flow Regulation: Some plug type valve has a regulation function, allowing precise control of fluid flow. By rotating the valve core, the degree of opening or closing of the valve channel can be changed, thus regulating the medium's flow. By controlling the rotation angle of the valve core, precise control of the fluid flow can be achieved, meeting the requirements of different process procedures.
Quick and Light Opening and Closing: Plug type valves are used for frequent operations, providing fast and light opening and closing actions. Like butterfly valves and ball valves, plug type valves are quarter-turn valves, requiring only a 90° turn to control the valve from fully open to fully closed, making them fast-acting valves.
Low Fluid Resistance: The pressure drop of full-bore Plug type valve is very low because the plug body size matches the pipeline's inner diameter, allowing the fluid to pass through almost unobstructed. However, the flow through rectangular plug type valve compared to full-bore valves will decrease to 70%, introducing some fluid resistance; overall, plug type valves offer relatively low fluid resistance.
Simple Structure, Relatively Small Size, Lightweight, and Easy to Maintain: Plug type valves have a relatively simple structure, mainly consisting of the valve body, valve core, valve seat, packing, and driving device. The valve body is the outer shell of the valve, providing a channel for fluid flow; the valve seat mates with the valve core to form a sealing surface; the packing prevents fluid leakage; and the driving device transmits the rotating torque to rotate the valve core. This simple structure makes the plug type valve relatively small in size, lightweight, easy to install, and maintain.
Good Sealing Performance: Soft-seal plug type valve uses self-lubricating material bushings and double-groove sealing ring structures for unique designs, resulting in a low friction coefficient of the sealing pair, flexible operation of the plug body, long service life, and zero leakage of the sealing pair. Oil-lubricated hard-seal plug type valves enhance the sealing surface's wear and corrosion resistance through a grease-lubrication structure and surface reinforcement treatment, also providing good sealing performance.
No Installation Direction Restrictions, Arbitrary Medium Flow Direction: The design of the plug type valve does not restrict installation directions, allowing arbitrary changes in the medium flow direction. This feature makes plug type valve more flexible and convenient during installation and use, adapting to different pipeline layouts and process requirements.
No Vibration, Low Noise: Plug type valves produce low vibration and noise during operation due to their simple structure and smooth opening and closing actions, lacking significant impact force and vibration. This advantage is particularly evident in noise-sensitive areas, such as hospitals, schools, and residential areas.
